PDO Threads

Non-Surgical Face Lift using PDO Threads

As we age, our skin naturally loses elasticity, which can lead to wrinkles, fine lines, sagging, and drooping. Fortunately, there are many effective minimally invasive procedures for non-surgical skin lifting that can rejuvenate your appearance, allowing you to feel youthful again. One of the most popular options is the PDO thread lift.

This innovative procedure lifts and tightens loose skin without any cutting or incisions. Instead, it utilizes absorbable PDO sutures that are expertly woven beneath the skin to provide both support and a smoothing effect, resulting in beautifully natural outcomes. As the PDO sutures dissolve, they stimulate collagen production and encourage the generation of new elastin, enhancing your skin's clarity and firmness. The end result is a firmer, tighter, and smoother complexion, giving you a more youthful-looking face and skin.

These threads effectively support areas of your face, neck, or body that have started to sag, helping you regain that youthful contour.

What is PDO Threads

Polydioxanone (PDO) threads aren’t just ordinary "threads"; they are hair-thin strands made of synthetic absorbable materials that have been utilized in surgery since the 1980s. These dissolvable sutures feature tiny barbs that, when inserted under the skin, gently lift and tighten the skin while promoting collagen stimulation and new collagen growth. The result is not only instant rejuvenation but also continuous improvement over time.

PDO thread lifts are designed to be naturally absorbed by the body over a period of 6-8 months, but the stunning results can last up to 18 months. As the PDO dissolves, it fosters a strong collagen bond within the skin.

The key principle behind non-surgical skin lifting with PDO threads is not merely about repositioning the skin; it’s about stimulating the body’s natural response to a ‘foreign body’—which encourages collagen production and enhances blood circulation, ultimately tightening the tissue.

Why are threads an excellent option

Are PDO Threads Safe?

PDO thread lifts are generally considered safe when performed by an appropriately trained and experienced medical provider. PDO (polydioxanone) is a biocompatible, absorbable material with a long history of use in medical sutures, including surgical procedures. The threads gradually dissolve and are absorbed by the body over time.

What Are The Risks?

Because a PDO thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure performed without general anesthesia, it avoids many of the risks and recovery associated with traditional surgery. However, as with any medical procedure, PDO threads are not completely risk-free. Temporary swelling, bruising, tenderness, puckering, or asymmetry can occur, and less common complications may include infection, visible or palpable threads, thread migration or extrusion, and nerve or tissue injury.

Is It Painful?

There are zero cuts or incisions, only injections for non-surgical skin lifting. Before the procedure, we will use topical numbing cream as well as a local anesthetic. The Lunchtime Facelift procedure, which promotes collagen stimulation, may be done in approximately 1 – 2 hours and is usually managed with acetaminophen and/or ibuprofen, similar to a PDO thread lift.

How Long Do The Results Last?

Enjoy a youthfully reshaped face for up to two years with good skin care through collagen stimulation techniques, including non-surgical skin lifting options like the PDO thread lift.

How Much Does It Cost?

The cost of a PDO thread lift varies depending on the treatment area, type and number of threads used, and the amount of correction needed to achieve your goals. At the Cosmetic & Wellness Institute, PDO thread lift treatments typically range from $900 to $5,000.

Because every face and treatment plan is different, we recommend a consultation to evaluate your anatomy, skin laxity, and desired results before providing an exact treatment cost.

For patients who want to address mild to moderate skin laxity without traditional surgery, PDO threads offer a minimally invasive option for lifting and repositioning tissue while stimulating collagen production over time.

What to Do Before a treatment

To prepare for skin for effective treatment, we recommend the following steps:

  •  Avoid any kind of blood thinners, including baby aspirin, Aleve, and Motrin, for about three days prior to treatment. This helps minimize any bruising you experience.

  •  Steer clear of alcohol and smoking for a couple of days before treatment.

  •  Make sure you use sunscreen any time you’re outside, especially in the days leading up to your treatment; we may not be able to perform treatment on skin that is sunburned.

  •  If you have any kind of bacterial or fungal infection, make sure you let us know before treatment begins.

What to Do After a Treatment

One reason why patients love PDO threads is that the recovery period is pretty mild. Here are some recommendations to ensure your recovery is as smooth as possible:

  •  We advise that you avoid strenuous exercise for about two days after your procedure, and don’t get a massage near the treatment area for about two weeks.
  •  With these exceptions, feel free to get back to your normal life, including walking, driving, chewing, going to work, etc., right away.
  •  Over the first 24 hours, use cold compresses to minimize any swelling that you experience.
  •  Return to your normal skincare routine after the first 24 hours.
  •  For three to five days after your treatment, we recommend sleeping on your back. This helps minimize your risk of the threads being moved out of place.
  •  Use Tylenol to manage any minor discomfort you experience. For most patients, post-treatment soreness is fairly minimal.
  •  Avoid taking a shower or washing your hair for the first 24 hours after treatment.
  •  Avoid visiting any saunas or hot tubs for about a week.
