Hair Loss Explained

What Is Normal Hair Loss?

When Should I Seek Treatment?

What Is Normal Hair Loss?

Hair loss is a natural part of the hair growth cycle, and shedding a certain amount each day is completely normal. On average, most people lose 50 to 100 hairs per day as part of this process. This daily shedding helps make way for new, healthy hair growth.

Hair grows in cycles, including:

  • Anagen (growth phase) – lasts 2 to 7 years

  • Catagen (transition phase) – lasts a few weeks

  • Telogen (resting/shedding phase) – lasts around 3 months

At any given time, about 10% to 15% of your hair is in the shedding phase, which is why you may notice loose strands when brushing, washing, or waking up.

What Causes Hair Loss?

When Should I Seek Treatment?

What Is Normal Hair Loss?

Hair loss can be a stressful and emotional experience, but understanding the cause is the first step toward effective treatment.

Common Causes of Hair Loss:

1. Hormonal Changes

2. Genetics

3. Stress or Illness

4. Nutrient Deficiencies

5. Medications

6. Autoimmune Conditions

7. Hairstyling and Chemical Damage

8. Aging

When Should I Seek Treatment?

When Should I Seek Treatment?

When Should I Seek Treatment?

While daily shedding is normal, excessive hair loss may be a sign of an underlying condition.

  • Large amounts of hair in your brush or shower drain

  • Thinning at the temples or crown

  • A widening part line

  • Bald patches

  • Sudden shedding after illness, childbirth, stress, or hormonal changes

No matter the cause, early intervention is key.

Treatment Options

Natural Regrowth. Real Results.

If you're looking for a powerful, drug-free solution to thinning hair, PRP/Exosome Therapy offers the perfect blend of science and your body’s own regenerative power. This cutting-edge combination therapy is designed to stimulate dormant hair follicles, increase thickness, and encourage real, long-lasting hair regrowth—naturally.

What is PRP?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is derived from your own blood and concentrated with healing growth factors. When injected into the scalp, PRP:

  • Boosts blood supply to hair follicles
  • Increases the thickness of the hair shaft
  • Triggers and prolongs the active growth phase (anagen)
  • Encourages natural, non-hormonal hair regrowth

What Are Exosomes?

Exosomes are tiny messengers derived from plant or animal stem cells that contain powerful regenerative proteins and signaling molecules. When used on the scalp, they:

  • Supercharge tissue repair and follicular stimulation
  • Reduce inflammation that may contribute to hair loss
  • Enhance the effectiveness and longevity of hair restoration treatments

DE|RIVE is ideal for skin, scalp, and hair support.

There has been a lot of research and development of bio-identical growth factors from different natural sources with consistent quality for the same purpose. DE|RIVE is FDA approved for the treatment of hair loss. We utilize this serum with our Aquafirme XS device to exfoliate the scalp, improve blood flow to the hair follicles, and deliver the growth factors to the hair follicles. Additionally, we utilize ultrasound device to push the growth factors deeper into the hair follicles and low-level laser therapy is applied to further stimulate the results.

Why DE|RIVE?

  • Finasteride (Topical or Oral)
  • Dutasteride (Topical or Oral)
  • Spironolactone (Women Only)

For many patients, targeted prescription medications can play a vital role in halting hair loss and stimulating new growth.

Low-Level Laser Therapy for hair loss is NOT a new or unproven treatment. In fact, it has been shown to be effective in numerous scientific studies. Subsequent experiments showed that low-intensity red laser had very unique biologic effect on cells, tissues, and organisms. Namely, LLLT was found to relieve pain, heal wounds, and regenerate tissues, restoring their natural form and function.

How does laser therapy fight hair loss and regenerate tissues? Due to the fact that specialized molecules within our cells are able to convert the energy of red light into a usable form, in a similar way that plants can use energy from sunlight to grow and sustain themselves. More specifically, the enzyme cytochrome-c-oxidase within the mitochondria of our cells is energized by red light in a way that enhances cellular respiration, the process by which cells convert food, water, and oxygen into the energy we use to function and remain alive.

The surgical treatments for male and female pattern hair loss have significantly advanced over time, offering excellent short- and long-term results when the most suitable method is applied to the right individual. The two main hair transplantation procedures are the Linear Strip Excision (LSE), also known as Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). Dr. Fernandez-Tatum will thoroughly discuss both techniques during the consultation, outlining the advantages and disadvantages of each, and explaining the reasons behind selecting the most appropriate technique for each individual.
