Hidden away in your blood platelets are numerous growth factors that can keep the tissues all over your body healthy, resilient, smooth, and strong. PRF or platelet rich fibrin is a quick in office procedure where we draw blood and spin it down in a centrifuge and extract the PRF. The PRF contains nine different growth factors and is the part of the blood the knits your skin back together after you’ve cut yourself. It is used with micro-needling as glide, and this reinjects all those healing growth factors back into your skin! It can also be used as a filler. We inject it just like traditional filler. If using just PRF, this will need to be repeated 2 more times spaced 6 weeks (about 1 and a half months) apart to get the full impact of traditional filler. The bonus with PRF is it literally transforms your face in a way that filler alone cannot. By injecting the healing part of the blood into your face you can create deposition of collagen AND elastin, which we lose as we age. This lasts 9-18 months which is longer than traditional filler.
PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin. PRF is a byproduct of blood that is exceptionally rich in platelets. These platelets release growth factors that stimulate stem cells. There are 9 different growth factors present in PRF. This is the stuff that literally knits your skin back together if you get a cut. These stem cells are a powerhouse and present a variety of treatment options for you. PRF injections release growth factors slowly resulting in a longer-lasting effect. When PRF is used with microneedling you are putting all of those growth factors into skin right where it is needed! And it is all your own tissue so perfectly suited to your needs!
After PRF therapy, you can expect mild redness, swelling, warmth or a sensation of tightness just after your treatment. This usually disappears within a few days. Bruising is possible. Most patients feel they can resume all activities of daily living immediately following their appointment. Over the course of several weeks to months, your platelets will go to work fortifying and strengthening your skin. New collagen growth will add fullness and volume to thinning areas. Your wrinkles will smooth out and your scars can fade. Several treatments spaced a month or two apart may be needed to achieve optimal results.
